Handi Kids - Recreation for Children with Disabilities

Handi Kids is a non-profit, recreational facility for children and young adults with physical and cognitive disabilities. Handi Kids provides therapeutic recreation to hundreds of individuals on a year-round basis through our Summer Day Camp, Saturday Camp, School Vacation Camp, After School, Therapeutic Horseback Riding, Carriage Driving, Hippotherapy, Stable Management, Boy Scout & Girl Scout Troops, Teen programs, and Special Event programming.

Our goal is to benefit each child emotionally, physically and socially while helping those who require individualized attention and guidance enjoy and participate in recreational activities. Handi Kids’ 20-acre complex is entirely handicapped accessible, offering programs including music, dance, movies, games, sports, swimming, karate, computers, culinary arts, archery, nature walks, arts & crafts, boating, fishing, music therapy and expressive arts therapy. Our swimming pool includes a wheelchair ramp and our boating pond has a special bridge allowing children the opportunity to fish. Our playgrounds, main gymnasium and arts & crafts building were designed with the special needs child in mind and our therapeutic riding arena contains ramps for the mounting and dismounting of horses.

Founded in 1963 by the Knights of Pythias fraternal organization, Handi Kids offers scholarship assistance to qualified families. We strive to ensure that no child is turned away due to his or her inability to pay. Handi Kids is a 501(c)(3) organization relying on the generosity of corporations, foundations and individuals to fund our programs. This support allows for the creation and providing of programs that develop essential life skills for children with disabilities.
