  Therapeutic Riding Instructor Part Time
(10-20 hours per week, weekends required)
 
  We seek a motivated and skilled part-time riding instructor to join the Handi Kids Therapeutic Riding Center team. Handi Kids provides therapeutic riding and driving lessons to over 100 children and adults each week. Our instructors also teach typical riding and driving lessons to our neighbors in the local community. Our safe and sound horses are fun to work with, and our state-of-the-art riding center is dedicated to continuous learning and improvement. In addition staff continues their equine professional development through education events, mounted clinics and competitions  
     
  Teaching Skill Requirements  
 
  • Experience with creating enjoyable and creative lesson plans resulting in learning progression and achievable rider goals
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and teach private and group riding lessons
  • Ability to integrate horsemanship into regular riding lessons
  • Experience with teaching summer camp programs
  • Ability to maintain excellent communication with families and/or care givers of students
 
  Riding/Horsemanship Skill Requirements  
 
  • Proven background in riding and training a variety of horses
  • Strong knowledge of horsemanship
  • Ability to exercise and school horses
  • Driving experience a plus
 
  Qualifications  
  MA State riding instructor license
NARHA certification
 

  Special Needs Program Director  
  Handi Kids is a dynamic not-for-profit year round therapeutic recreation center with a visionary Executive Director and Board. We are seeking an experienced professional who is passionate about and dedicated to working with children and teens with special needs. This key member of the senior management team is responsible for innovative program development and execution, staffing and community outreach for our year round and summer programs. We serve more than 700 children in our After School, Saturday, Summer Camp and School Vacation Camp programs. This position supervises a seasonal staff of 125 supporting approximately 700 clients with a range of special needs including autism spectrum disorders.  
     
  This is a unique opportunity to help shape the growth of an established program with year-round program design and implementation, plus staff, camper and volunteer recruitment. The ideal candidate will have: Bachelor's Degree required; Masters in Special Education preferred; Experience with youth with disabilities; proven success in program development and staff supervision, behavior management, parent communication, agency interfacing; a commitment to excellence and teamwork, a visionary who gets things done. Current CPR/First Aid certification is an ongoing requirement for this position.

  Life Skills Coordinator – Special Needs  
  Reporting to the Executive Director, this professional will develop and execute programs that will help our clients develop essential life skills. We serve all children regardless of the nature or severity of their disability. Our new program space can accommodate theater, music, dance and a variety of other activities. These programs will operate year round on Saturdays, after school and during our summer camp.

  We seek positive, energetic and enthusiastic individuals for our part-time Therapeutic Riding Center programs. A background with horses required and knowledge of the therapeutic benefits of riding required. The successful candidate should consider the environment of horses and riding as a platform for delivering his or her services. Our state-of-the-art complex, seasoned therapeutic lesson horses and diverse assortment of tack are available to support our programs.

Volunteer Coordinator – Therapeutic Riding Center

This position will be solely responsible for the management and supervision of all the volunteer work-force activities. Responsibilities are focused on the creation of work schedules, programs, systems and ideas to advance the number, efficiency and knowledge level of the volunteer work force. This individual will be an active participant at all planned Handi Kids events.
 
Additional responsibilities will include development of marketing materials to increase volunteer participation, active outreach to the community, and establishing associations with local high schools, colleges, business organizations and church groups in order to grow the volunteer labor force.
 
This position will also develop new training materials targeted to inform and educate new volunteers. This individual, along with the head riding instructor, will conduct frequent training sessions held at the Riding Center.
 
The successful applicant will possess:
  • Strong organization and planning skills
  • Proven verbal and written communications skills.  (Public speaking skills a plus)
  • Proficiency with MS Office
  • The ability to function independently or in a strong team environment
